Preparing Sessions For Mixing
By following the simple steps below, we will be able to get started on your mix much faster. I mix using Nuendo 4. Although I also use Pro Tools 7.4 and have the ability to play your sessions for comments, examples, etc,. it is more efficient for me to take your bounced/consolidated audio files and create a Nuendo mix session from them. Please label your hard drives with the artist, producer, titles, and anything else you think is helpful such as sample rate, bit depth, and DAW version. Please include your working or rough mixes for reference. Please check the locations of your audio files. Sometimes I recieve sessions with missing audio files because they were actually on a different drive or on the previous person's workstation. Please check all of your edits and cross fades before bouncing/consolidating files. Please consolidate or merge using WAV files starting at the same point with notes in a "README.txt” telling me the sample rate, tempo, meter, key and any other information. Don't assume that I have the same plug-ins as you. If the plug-in you are using is a part of the sound then print it, and only leave an un-effected version as an alternate track if you want me to choose which one to use. Keeping the tracks in a logical order and naming tracks correctly can make things run smoother and faster. Notes about the session, charts and complete lyric sheets are always helpful. I do not use Pro Tools automation; so using volume automation to level or mute items can be missed. If you would like something muted, or leveled, do so before you consolidate. If there is panning automation that is important (ex. panning from left to right every beat), please leave a note in the comments column in the mix window of Pro Tools, or send a note along with the files. Although my first choice is to create and mix from a new Nuendo session, in the event that your Pro Tools session is complex and you would prefer I mix from your already established Pro Tools session, I can do that upon request. |
